Anglican Church Women Association

The Anglican Church Women Association (ACWA) began in 1992.   It was the “brainchild” of Canon Errol Brooks now the Right Reverend L Errol Brooks, Bishop of the North Eastern Caribbean and Aruba.  Recognising that apart from attending Mass, not many women 25-50 years were actively involved in church life and so he invited them to a meeting.  That was the beginning of ACWA, St Mary’s Chapter, Anguilla, on January 7, 1992.  Elections were held and the Executive and members were installed on February 9, 1992.

Our aim is to “provide women with an opportunity to discover and live the meaning of their baptism in Christ”.  Our motto is “Women of Commitment and Service” and our logo is an open pomegranate with seeds falling from it to represent the spread of the gospel and the fulfilling life in Christ.  Each Chapter is divided into four committees: Worship, Fellowship, Social Outreach and Fundraising.  These provide opportunities and activities for the members to fulfil the aim and motto of the association.

At the 47th Session of Synod of the North Eastern Caribbean and Aruba, the Anglican Church Women Association was recognised as an Association in the Diocese. The Diocesan Council of ACWA meets periodically.

There are Chapters of ACWA in Dominica, Antigua, St Kitts and Nevis.  Members meet at Biennial Conferences to worship and share ideas on local, regional and international matters which impact the growth and development of the Association, its members and the wider church.
